What is Take?
Take is where a song-in-progress lives while you and your collaborators work on it from different places. Stems, roughs, and comments all attach to one project instead of scattering across Drive folders and Discord threads. It's a web app anyone can use, plus a REAPER panel for producers who mix in REAPER.
How do I share stems with a collaborator for feedback?
Upload a stem to the project and it's there for everyone with access. Collaborators can play it in the browser, or pull it straight into their own REAPER session at the right timecode.
Can I leave comments at a timestamp on a mix?
Yes. Play the current rough and drop a note, and it pins to that exact second. Anyone who opens the project later sees the comment sitting where you meant it, no "around 1:42 in the second chorus" guessing.
Does Take work with REAPER?
Yes, through a panel that installs via ReaPack and docks inside REAPER. It pulls stems onto your timeline at the right timecode, pushes a rendered stem or rough back to the project, and lets you read and post comments, including voice memos, without leaving your session.
Does it work with other DAWs, like Ableton, Logic, or Pro Tools?
The web app works with any DAW, because it moves bounced audio files. Upload your export, download somebody else's stem, mix wherever you want. The panel that docks inside the DAW and moves audio for you is REAPER only right now.
How much does Take cost?
Free covers the web app: uploads, text comments, 5GB of storage, and 30 days of version history. Paid is $8 a month and adds the REAPER integration, voice memos, cut and loop, 100GB of storage, 12 months of history, and public wrap pages with zip export. Every new account gets the paid features free for 14 days, no card. Storage stays at 5GB until you upgrade.
Do my collaborators need to pay?
No. The project owner pays, and everyone invited to that project gets the paid features on it. One paying member unlocks the REAPER integration for the whole band.
Is Take a DAW?
No. Take plays one bounced stereo file at a time, the rough mix somebody rendered and uploaded. It doesn't stack stems for multitrack playback and never touches your mix. It's the layer between your DAW and the people you're making the song with.
What happens to old versions?
A new upload never replaces the old one. New stems and roughs are added alongside earlier versions, and the most recent becomes current. History reaches back 30 days on the free plan and 12 months on paid.
